Lisa Trapani Shumate

Houston, TX

As Houston Public Media’s associate vice president and general manager, Lisa Trapani Shumate oversees the strategic direction and operations of Houston Public Media's broadcast and digital assets which includes the nation’s first educational television station TV8 (PBS), KUHF News 88.7 (NPR) and their digital subchannels. She is also the executive director of the Houston Public Media Foundation, which provides financial support to the media organization.

During her tenure Houston Public Media has increased daily news and public affairs content, become a PBS Regional Digital Center for Innovation, and expanded training and implementation of PBS education resources with parents, teachers, and schools in the region. 

Before joining Houston Public Media in 2011, she held successive roles of executive leadership at KHOU-TV (TEGNA), BELO Corporation (TEGNA), and KTRK-TV (Disney/ABC) in both Houston and Dallas. 

Lisa is co-author of the digital course “You’ve Got This: The Real Skills You Need for Career Success,” published by Wiley, and is an adjunct Professor at the University of Houston Bauer College of Business. 

In addition to serving on the PBS and PBS Foundation Boards of Directors, she is Vice Chair of American Public Television, a member of the Greater Houston Partnership’s Executive Women’s Partnership, and has been the recipient of numerous regional and national awards for community service, leadership and innovation. 

A native of Louisiana, Trapani Shumate holds a B.A. in Communications from Loyola University, an MBA from the University of Houston and is a graduate of the Leadership Coaching program and Rice University’s Jones Graduate School of Business.  Lisa is an International Coaching Federation certified coach.
